Yesterday, we traveled to the VUMC Clinical Engineering facility. We met with Mr. Rick Clark, a clinical engineering specialist, and learned about common problems with medical equipment and ways to go about fixing them. For example, one of the key pieces of advice for when a device is not powering up, was to always start with the power source and work inward.
Here is a photo of us on our way to the VUMC, taken by Dr. Paschal. We are holding up our t-shirts that we will be wearing on Saturday!

Trip Preparation
Welcome to our blog! Here you will find daily updates during our trip to Guatemala. We leave on February 28, which is fast approaching. In preparation for our trip, we have cleaned, tested, and repaired equipment we will be transporting to Guatemala. In addition, we have had a travel consultation with a doctor from the Student Health Center. She discussed with us how to stay healthy on the trip, as well as what vaccines were necessary. We also learned about the culture and history of Guatemala. Dean White is already in Guatemala, but before departing he gave us a lesson in basic electrical safety. Next week we will be making a trip over to the Medical Center to learn more about the equipment we can expect to be working on in the hospital.
We are all incredibly excited for the trip! Stay tuned for more…
